Indoor and outdoor environments have demarcations and sub-divisions. We see boundaries between things as they are broken up into segments. This is due to natural processes or human-made: fences, walls, boundaries in geological strata between one sediment and another. We perceive many such boundaries as presented by visual lines. As a natural consequence of my earlier artmaking where I hand-stitched drawings onto fabric, I discovered that I could use strings and ropes as sculptural additions to outdoor environments and in this way change the landscape. I also made my own body become part of such linear additions – as I moved with and changed the line structures that I had added. Such moving actions produce a live performance. And, the wind can function as a actor that moves things – elastic string fixed to two points and suspended in space between them – becomes moved by the wind, emitting humming sounds whose frequencies are dependent on the wind’s strength and direction.
